When you’re considering working as a uniformed security officer, you may be either unarmed or armed depending on your position.
Unarmed Security Service
Unarmed security officers provide security patrols, systems monitoring, policy enforcement and incident response in many environments and settings. Often these are highly visible positions, requiring public relations and customer service skills.
Armed Security Service
Armed security assignments are placed at high-threat sites. Security officer selection for armed assignments is more stringent. Generally prior experience is preferred in the military or law enforcement. Armed security officers will need to meet additional requirements established by the client or by state or local regulations. You require extensive training on the proper care, custody, and use of authorized firearms.
